      Sorry for the late response!

You will fill out the FAFSA in January of your senior year of high school, if you plan to enroll in a college that August after you graduate. It’s best to fill out the FAFSA as close to January as possible in that year (and you will need to fill it out each year that you are in school with updated information from your parents’ tax returns).

The FAFSA determines your eligibility for federal, state, local, and college scholarships, grants, and loans for that particular school year. Federal aid is granted on a first come, first serve basis.

      Hope this helps!

If you would like an idea of what the financial aid application is like and to get some general information about financial aid eligibility, you can complete the FAFSA 4Caster anytime (even before you can complete the FAFSA). You can find it online at http://www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov.
