What are your goals or plans after graduation?
I am a current freshman at The University of Texas-Pan American, i will be graduating in 2014 with my Nursing degree, and my plans are to work as a Registered Nurse at a clinic or local hospital. After a get a good job and i am stable i hope to return to school again and pursue a degree as a Physician Assistance.
What are the challenges and tradeoffs in pursuing higher education? Is it worth it?
It has been a challenge already as far as i have gotten. However there are no regrets in what i had to go through to get me where i am today. As a migrant student, i have had to overcome many obstacles in life that were difficult especially through my high school years. However all my hard work and dedication to my education have been worth it so far, and i know it will continue to be worth it as i succeed in reaching my goals. As a migrant, someone who always migrates to a different state with their family, i know that it will be difficult at times. However i know that I’m doing it not just for myself but for my family as well, and the tradeoff will be worth it in the end.
How is getting a degree or certificate going to change your life?
I am the first generation in my family to make it to College and to have the ambition to strive for a higher education. Getting a degree will not only provide me and my family with a better income, but it will make me happy to know that i will be helping other people being a nurse. I think that the most important thing about getting a degree is to have it be something that you want to do in life. To have a passion in what you are doing, and not see work as simply a job, will make your life more enjoyable. With a degree i know that i am going to be able to help my family economically without having to migrate anymore and work in harsh conditions. I know that my life will be better than ever before, and i hope that by giving my parents that extra help, their life will be better too.
How are you going to use your education to make your generation the most successful ever?
I will work hard and dedicate my time wisely to school and my education to prove that there are people out there who actually want and need a degree in order to move forward. I will work my hardest and not give up so that i can be successful in earning my degree and getting through college, and with this show that if i was able to make, anybody who is just like me can do it to.
Why are you Generation TX?
I am Generation TX because i know that i will be successful in life.
