How has your education impacted your career and your life?

Engaging actively in my community college has allowed me to recognize that the only limits on my success are those that I create myself.

From where you are now, what do you believe about the role of education, especially college?

The acquisition of knowledge is one of the most empowering things that a person can achieve. The more you learn, the better you will be able to act effectively to achieve your goals in life. Surrounding yourself with a diverse group of intelligent people who have an interest in learning, or who have knowledge to share, is probably the fastest path to learning. Colleges attract those kinds of people, and therefore provide that kind of environment.

What advice do you have for the students of Generation TX?

You can do a lot more than you think you can. You only grow by stretching yourself, by testing your limits. Strike out in the direction that stirs up energy within you. Have faith in yourself. College isn't the only route to success - The creator of facebook never graduated, and yet he became a millionaire because he had a cool idea and invested time and energy in making it work. If you can, wait one year before beginning college. Take some time to invest in exploring who you are, what you stand for, and what excites you. That way, when you begin taking classes you will have an energy driving your actions that will propel you farther than you might have otherwise gone.

Why do you believe in Generation TX?

I believe in the Generation TX program because it is aligned with my values: truth, love, and individual empowerment. It offers to students the wisdom and knowledge of experts and people who have personal experience going through the education system. It offers to students the love and support from those experts, and also family members, friends, and mentors. And it offers to students personal empowerment, by providing knowledge, resources, and a space to involve themselves in a community and to communicate their needs.

What are your goals as a GenTX supporter?

To provide resources, knowledge, and encouragement to students, and to network with other community leaders to seek new and effective ways to improve the quality and scope of education in Texas and the world.
