How has your education impacted your career and your life?

Education has opened up doors to my career. One of the most valuable skills in today's ever-changing world is the ability to learn. If you can be a lifelong learner, you will always be employed, alive and engaged in the world. My education has given me the confidence to start my own company, and this is not something I would have ever been able to do with out education. Even figuring out how to get an education is all part of the experience of learning: applications, choices, essays, forms, deadlines, paying for it, figuring out how to live and take care of yourself--all of this is just as important as the actual things you learn in class.

From where you are now, what do you believe about the role of education, especially college?

College teaches you how to think. It also is about learning to take care of yourself in the world. I attended University of Michigan undergrad and when I got there, I learned I was just a social security number unless I made myself into something more. There are so many talented people, but you've got to find your place in the world. College lets you take your interests seriously. It lets you pursue them and become expert at them, and build a career and life for yourself.

What advice do you have for the students of Generation TX?

Bring it on!

Why do you believe in Generation TX?

I believe in the power of people to be their own best resource. I love to see what happens when a groundswell of people decide something is important and they make it happen. Nothing can stop inspired people. They can accomplish anything.

What are your goals as a GenTX supporter?

To be just one of the community of people who look these students in the eye EVERYDAY and tell them: " You are awesome! We are proud of you for how hard you are working in school, you keep it up, and you can and will go to college--you can do anything you want in your life. Sky's the limit!"
